What is RS27 Baseball?
|
RS27 Baseball is a site focusing on the "RS27" metric. The statistic measures the run production efficiency of a player by comparing runs a player was involved in versus the outs they generate.
- The "RS" component is run shares, which is a player's runs scored plus RBI's divided by two ... (R+RBI)/2.
- The "27" component represents 27 outs. Outs in this equation is (At Bats - Hits) + Sac Hits + Sac Flies + Caught Stealing + Grounded Into Double Plays.
- Then take "RS"/"OUTS"*27 and you get RS27. The stat displays how many runs a player was involved in per 27 outs they generate. Sort of like pitcher ERA, but in this case the higher the better.
This statistic focuses on "what" happened as opposed to other advanced metrics that focus more on what "should" have happened. So RS27 is not predictive by nature, but is more a celebration of what actually happened on the field.
It is a stat that is intended to bridge the gap between basic statistics and advanced SABR metrics.
